Electrician searches in Australia

How many Australians search for an electrician? About a million times a month. That is every Google search from someone looking to hire an electrician, added up: the suburb searches, the job searches, "near me", the emergencies and the rest. The whole count is below, with how we did it.

1,040,090

Google searches a month from Australians looking to hire an electrician, as Semrush lists them, added up from 12,975 different searches. Counted once per set of words, so that "near me electricians" and "electricians near me" are one search: 946,310.

of them say "near me" or "local"
78,500
name a suburb, city, region or state
689,600
say emergency, after hours or 24 hour
59,850

These count people looking to hire. Searches about cost, electrical businesses searched by name, and the searches Semrush lists but has never measured are shown further down and left out of the total. Each search sits in one group only; the rule is spelled out under "How we counted".

Electrician keywords, by job

People in marketing call these searches keywords. Keywords are just the words people type into Google, so from here we say searches. About 204,500 searches a month name the job, and the jobs sort out the way an electrician's phone does: commercial and industrial work is the biggest group by a long way, then level 2 mains and meter work, power points, safety inspections and fault finding, then ovens and appliances, switchboards, rewiring, test and tag and solar. Every group below is the total of all the searches that name that job, with the biggest single search beside it.

Semrush AU, pulled 8 September 2026. "Searches a month" adds up every counted search that names the job. "How hard" is Semrush's difficulty score for the biggest search in the group, out of 100, lower is easier. "One click" is Semrush's estimate of what one Google ad click on that search costs, and a click cost of $0.00 marks one of Semrush's modelled rows, see "How we counted"; Google's own ranges for five searches are under "What a click costs". The table counts every search that names a job, including the 2,610 a month that also say "emergency"; the share bar at the top puts those in the emergency group, which is why its job figure reads 201,890.

Where the searches are

66% of all the searches name a place. The capital cities come first, then the regional cities, then the suburbs, 2,231 of them with a measurable search. Every place name was matched against the Bureau of Statistics list of Australian suburbs and localities, so "electrician penrith" counts for Penrith and nowhere else. Every figure in this section counts every search that names the place, whichever group it sits in; the share bar at the top puts a search that also says emergency or names a job in that group first, which is why its place figures read lower.

Searches a month that name a capital city, all forms added up ("electrician perth", "emergency electrician perth", "perth electricians" and so on): 121,270 across the eight cities as listed, 78,330 once the emergency and job searches among them are counted in their own groups, which is the figure the share bar carries. Semrush AU, pulled 8 September 2026. How to read it: Semrush fills out towns with variants of one measured search ("electrician newcastle", "electrician newcastle nsw", "newcastle electrician", "electricians newcastle" and "newcastle electricians" are five of Newcastle's rows, and the smaller ones carry a click cost copied from a bigger one), so the "searches a month" column can put a city with many listed variants above one with a bigger single search. "Searches listed" is how many different searches the sum is built from, and the biggest single search is the sturdier size signal: on the sum Newcastle sits above the Sunshine Coast and Wollongong, on the biggest search it sits below both. Rows Semrush has modelled outright (a difficulty score with a click cost of $0.00) are inside every total on this page, not only this table; the figure is under "How we counted". A region name like "northern beaches" or "inner west" counts here, not as a suburb.

Semrush AU, pulled 8 September 2026. Read it the same way as the regional table: the sum leans on how many variants Semrush lists, the biggest single search is the steadier signal. A suburb name that exists in more than one state (Brighton, Richmond, Hawthorn) is one line here, because the search does not say which one. Your own suburb: half of the 2,231 suburbs sit at about 90 searches a month or less, a quarter at 50 or less and a quarter at 190 or more, with the smallest at 10.

By state, counting every search that names a place: New South Wales 163,650 · Queensland 133,240 · Victoria 106,730 · Western Australia 100,090 · South Australia 45,250 · Australian Capital Territory 6,730 · Tasmania 6,290 · Northern Territory 2,920. A further 117,510 sit on suburb names shared by more than one state, 4,070 only say Australia and 3,120 sit on place names with no state. Suburb searches together come to 390,670 a month, across 4,884 different searches.

"Near me" and emergency searches

"Electrician near me" is the single biggest search in the country, and the searches that say "near me" or "local" come to 78,500 a month together, about 8% of the total. The emergency, after hours and 24 hour searches come to 59,850 a month, about 6%. Both are smaller than the place searches: most people type where they are, not "near me".

The biggest "near me" searches

Monthly Australian searches, the eight biggest that say "near me", "close to me" or "local". Source: Semrush AU, pulled 8 September 2026.

Semrush lists the same words in a different order as separate searches: "electricians near me" (4,400) beside "near me electricians", "brisbane electrician" (880) beside "electrician brisbane", "adelaide electrician" (720) beside "electrician adelaide". They are the same words. The chart shows them as Semrush lists them; across the whole count, 93,780 a month sits on a search whose words also appear, in another order, in a bigger one, which is why the key band gives both figures, 1,040,090 as listed and 946,310 counted once.

The biggest emergency searches

Monthly Australian searches, the eight biggest that say emergency, after hours, 24 hour, urgent or "power outage". Source: Semrush AU, pulled 8 September 2026.

The emergency group carries the dearest clicks on the page: an average Semrush click estimate of $17.79 against $13.11 for a suburb search. Getting your Google listing into the three at the top for the emergency searches, and getting your website found for the job searches, is SEO for electricians (SEO means getting your business found on Google), and that page covers both halves.

What a click costs

If you run Google ads, you pay each time someone clicks your ad, and the price is set by an auction, so it is a range, not a number. Google's own planning tool records what advertisers have bid for the top ad spot. We published those ranges for five electrician searches on 21 July 2026 and they are repeated here word for word.

What one top-of-page click has cost, low to high. Google Keyword Planner, retrieved 21 July 2026.

The search counts on this page come from Semrush and the click ranges come from Google, and the two are never mixed in one figure. Google's planning tool also counts searches, and it groups close spellings, so it puts "electrician near me" at 40,500 a month where Semrush lists 22,200 (the Google Keyword Planner figure is on our Google Ads cost per click page, retrieved 21 July 2026); this page uses Semrush for every count so that every figure comes from one export, and Google only for what a click costs. Where you land inside a range is set by your bid and your ad quality; how that works is on Google Ads for tradies, and the full table of 44 searches across 15 trades is on Google Ads cost per click by trade.

How we counted

Every search count on this page comes from Semrush, a paid tool that estimates how many times a search is typed into Google in Australia each month, averaged over the past twelve months. On 8 September 2026 we exported every search Semrush lists that contains "electrician", "electricians", "electrical", "sparky" or "sparkies": 164,104 different searches, 13,004,050 a month between them. The exports are kept and dated.

Then we took out everything that is not a person looking to hire an electrician: 11,297,190 a month across 130,669 searches, listed by reason below. The word "electrical" is the reason the pile is so big. Semrush lists every search that contains the word or a form of it, so most of what came back was electric scooters, electric toothbrushes and electricity retailers (9,237,510 a month of searches that only contain "electric" or "electricity", out before anything else), then electrical supplies and the wholesale chains (843,040), auto electricians, electrical engineering and electricity as a school subject (456,660), careers, wages and courses, and questions about the trade.

Three more sets are shown but never counted. Searches about cost, price or a quote, 8,560 a month, because that was the rule we set before we started. Electrical businesses searched by name, 340,930 a month, because someone typing a business name has already picked their electrician: that is every search Semrush tags as a brand lookup, plus the name-shaped ones it does not tag as a hire ("{word} electrical", "{city} electrical and {service}", "{business} reviews"). And the searches Semrush lists but has never measured (no difficulty score, no click cost, no intent), 317,280 a month across 14,941 rows, most of them a suburb or a business name at 10 or 20 a month, because a number nobody has measured is a guess.

Everything left is the count: 1,040,090 a month from 12,975 searches. Each one sits in exactly one group, by this order: emergency first, then the job, then the place, then "near me", then company or services, then best or cheap, then the bare word. So "emergency electrician sydney" is an emergency search, "commercial electrician perth" a job search, and "electrician penrith" a suburb search. The key band and the "near me" and emergency totals above count every search that says those words, whichever group it sits in.

Semrush AU, pulled 8 September 2026. Every set above was pulled, read and left out under the printed rule; nothing was dropped silently.

Two limits, stated plainly. Semrush caps an export at 10,000 rows, and the word "electrical" runs to more than half a million rows at 10 and 20 searches a month, nearly all of them never measured, so for those two bands we exported only the rows that carry a click cost (the rows the count can use, about 57,000 of 528,000), and one of those slices still ran about 200 rows past the cap; the rows we could not export were never going to be counted. And a search like "richmond electrical" could be someone in Richmond or a business named after it; we count it as the suburb, because that is what the words say.

KINGTRADIE is a tradie marketing company. We build websites, get businesses found on Google and run Google ads for Australian trade businesses, electricians among them, and numbers like these are where we start when we plan a client's pages. The plan for an electrician is laid out on SEO for electricians. If a figure looks off, tell us and we will check it.

Electrician search questions?

Five answers sized for a citation, with the pull date on every figure.

How many people search for an electrician each month in Australia?

About a million: 1,040,090 a month as Semrush lists them, adding up 12,975 different searches from people looking to hire one, or 946,310 once the same words in another order are counted as one search (Semrush AU, pulled 8 September 2026). The single biggest is "electrician near me" at 22,200 a month, but most searches name a place: 689,600 a month name a suburb, city, region or state.

What are the most searched electrical services in Australia?

Of the searches that name a job, the biggest groups are commercial and industrial (57,320 a month), level 2, mains and meters (23,780 a month), power points (23,630 a month), inspections and compliance (14,210 a month), fault finding and repairs (10,330 a month). The biggest single job search is "commercial electrician" at 2,900 a month, and it sits inside the biggest group (Semrush AU, pulled 8 September 2026).

Which suburbs search for an electrician the most?

Brighton, a suburb name shared by several states (2,650 a month); Penrith, New South Wales (2,610 a month); Hawthorn, a suburb name shared by several states (2,390 a month); Richmond, a suburb name shared by several states (2,210 a month); Campbelltown, a suburb name shared by several states (1,930 a month). Those are the suburbs with the most searches that name them; the full top 25 is on this page, and suburb searches together come to 390,670 a month across 2,231 suburbs (Semrush AU, pulled 8 September 2026).

Is "electrician near me" the biggest electrician search?

Yes: 22,200 a month, ahead of the bare word "electrician" at 18,100 and "electricians near me" at 4,400 (Semrush AU, pulled 8 September 2026). Together the searches that say "near me" or "local" come to 78,500 a month, about 8% of the total. Far more people type a place: 66% of all the searches name a suburb, city, region or state.

How often is this page updated?

We re-export the same searches from Semrush every quarter and re-run the same count. The next check is December 2026. When a figure moves, the new number and its pull date replace the old one, and the date at the top of the page changes. Nothing is estimated between pulls.
