What is SEO for a roofer?

SEO means getting your business found on Google. When someone near you searches for a roofer, Google shows three Google Business Profile listings first (the ones with the stars and the call button), then a list of websites. SEO is the work that gets you into both.

Why it matters: the three listings at the top get most of the calls. If you are not one of them, the job goes to whoever is.

Who it is for

It suits roofers who want steady local work without paying for every click. It pays off when:

  • "roofers close to me" gets 1,900 searches a month across Australia (Semrush AU, 2 Aug 2026)
  • you quote re-roofs and restorations, the jobs people search for before they call
  • you want a spot on Google you keep, not an ad bill that never ends

This is the roofing version of SEO for tradies. The website side is on websites for roofers. The same job for any trade is local SEO for tradies, the Australian listing rules are on local SEO in Australia, and setting up your Google listing yourself is covered in our Google Business Profile guide.

What people search for, in real numbers

These are real Google searches from across Australia. "Roof repairs" gets 3,600 a month. Add the word "cost" to "roof restoration" and far fewer businesses are competing for it.

Real reviews

Hear from trade businesses we've worked with

Why KINGTRADIE for your SEO?

  • Trade businesses are all we do

We only work with trades. You will not have to explain how roofing jobs come in.

  • We plan around your seasons

Storm months and quiet months need different work. We push when the calls spike and build when they slow down.

  • Proof, not promises

Nobody can honestly guarantee the top spot on Google, so we don't. We show you real results and real enquiries every month.

What we build first

Four kinds of roof work, in the order that gets results soonest. The numbers are Australia-wide searches a month.

  • Roof replacement

9,760 searches a month, and the easiest of the four to come up for. We start here.

  • Roof leak repair

7,830 searches a month, often typed the day the leak starts. Nearly as quick to win.

  • Metal roofing

15,920 searches a month across 37 ways of typing it. Colorbond gets asked for by name.

  • Roof repairs

30,290 searches a month, the biggest and the hardest to come up for. The three above bring in work while this one builds.

Pages that answer "how much"

  • People ask Google what a roof costs before they ring anyone: "roof restoration cost" gets 880 searches a month, "roof replacement cost" gets 720
  • Hardly any roofing websites answer them, so there are 22 of these searches with next to no competition
  • We write a page that gives honest price ranges and what changes them. They get a number, you get the enquiry

Roof restoration is different: most of those searches name a suburb, so they are won by your Google Business Profile listing, which is the first thing we set up. Semrush AU, 5 Aug 2026.

For every size of roofing business

The same plan, sized to your crew.

  • 1-3 on the crew

    Starter

One crew, and most work comes from word of mouth. First job: making sure your business shows up at all when your own suburb searches for a roofer.

  • 4-9 on the crew

    Growing

A couple of crews and quotes to fill between storms. We get you showing up across the suburbs around you, so the planned work comes in all year.

  • 10+ on the crew

    Established

The area knows you. Now it is about being the first name Google shows, through storm season and for the big quoted jobs.

Roofer SEO questions?

See if we answered it below.

What are the three businesses at the top of Google?

They are Google Business Profile listings. Search "roof repairs" and your suburb, and the three businesses at the top with stars and a call button are them. They get most of the calls, because people can ring straight from there.

What's the difference between the listings and the websites?

Two different jobs. The three listings at the top run on your Google Business Profile, your reviews and the suburbs you list. The websites under them come up based on what the website says. Most roofers end up wanting both, and we do both.

How much does it cost?

It comes down to how many other roofers are competing in your area, and how much needs fixing first. It is a monthly service, because the listing, the reviews and the pages need to keep moving. For a small roofing business it usually lands in the low thousands a month. You get the exact number on a call, and there is no lock-in.

Does it actually work?

Our results are named on this website. Quick Mick's Plumbing sits on page one of Google for around 40 searches and gets about 10 new clients a month from it, with no ad spend. Roofing is the same job, aimed at roof work.

How many suburbs can I show up in?

You set the suburbs you work in, not one address, and you can show up across them. Keep the list honest. If you would never send a ute there, do not list it.

How long does it take?

Usually 4 to 8 weeks for the first movement, and 3 to 6 months in busy city suburbs. Starting early matters, because a listing that is already strong catches the storm-season rush.

Should metal roofing get its own page?

Yes, if you do metal work. 'Colorbond roof replacement' gets 590 searches a month and 'metal roof installation' another 480. We give the main ones their own page, so your website comes up whichever way it gets typed.

Should I run Google ads as well?

Ads get you to the top of Google this week, and stop the day you stop paying. A "roofer near me" click has been costing advertisers roughly $6.71 to $30.20 (Google Keyword Planner, AU, July 2026). Plenty of roofers run ads while the free listing and the website build up.

How do I stop looking like the storm chasers?

After a big storm, insurers warn people about door knockers, so everyone gets careful. Make yourself easy to check: your licence and ABN on the website, real reviews on your Google listing, and photos of local jobs with the suburb named.
