For building businesses in Australia
Builder SEO and marketing
We get you found on Google by people nearby and by people planning a build.
What does SEO actually do for a builder?
SEO means getting your business found on Google for the jobs people plan ahead: new homes, renovations, extensions, granny flats.
"Builders near me" is decided by the three business listings at the top of Google, the ones with stars and a call button. "Renovation builders" is mostly decided by websites. We work on both.
What the data says:
-
Australians make 1.6 million searches a month to hire a builder, renovations included (1,622,640 as Semrush lists them). "Builders near me" is 4,400 of them, 7,300 with "builder near me" and "home builders near me"
-
searches that name the job add up to 1,261,580 a month: bathroom and kitchen renovations, new and custom homes, granny flats, extensions, commercial
-
the nearby searches are mostly decided by your Google listing, so they are won on reviews and the suburbs you list; the job-named searches range from difficulty 15 ("commercial builders") to 60 ("new home builders")
-
a page on your website for each of those jobs can get found on its own, and the clicks cost you nothing
Counted from 15,878 builder searches, every figure on how many people search for a builder. Semrush AU, pulled 8 September 2026. This is SEO for tradies for one trade, landing on a website built for tradies.
SEO services for builders
What we build, one page per kind of job, starting with the searches that are easiest to come up for. Your suburbs get their own numbers before we commit.
-
Commercial builds
880 searches a month for "commercial builders" at difficulty 15, the easiest job on this list to come up for. Commercial work gets awarded by builders, project managers and head contractors who look you up before they call, so this page comes first.
-
Extensions
"House extension builders" gets 480 searches a month at difficulty 24, "extension builders" another 390 at 23. One page for extensions, with the finished ones on it.
-
Renovations
"Renovation builders" and "home renovation builders" get 1,000 searches a month each, at difficulty 35 and 29. One page for renovations, then one each for the kinds you do most.
-
Granny flats
1,900 searches a month for "granny flat builders" at difficulty 51. One page with the granny flats you have built and what is included.
-
Custom homes
2,900 searches a month for "custom home builders" at difficulty 56. Harder to come up for, so it is built on the back of the pages above.
-
New homes
2,400 searches a month for "new home builders" at difficulty 60, the hardest on this list. It comes last and builds while the others bring work in.
See the searches for yourself.
"Builders near me" gets 4,400 Australian searches a month. "Custom home builders" gets 2,900, with no "near me" in it, so it is mostly won by a website.

Ads and the three business listings catch the person who needs a builder nearby. Your website does most of the catching for the person planning a new home or a renovation. What a "builder near me" click costs when you run ads is on Google Ads click costs by trade.
Local SEO for builders
Local SEO means getting found on Google by people near you. When someone types "builders near me", Google shows three business listings first, with stars and a call button, before any website. Here is what that side of the work covers.
-
Your Google listing
The free listing Google gives your business, with your reviews, hours and a call button. We set it up with the suburbs you build in, each kind of job listed as a service, and photos of finished work.
-
Reviews after every handover
Reviews help decide which three listings Google shows. We build the ask into the handover of every job, so the listing keeps growing.
-
The suburbs you build in
If you work from home or a yard, Google lets you list the suburbs you build in instead of an address. Keep the list to places you would actually price a job. "Local builders" gets 880 searches a month at difficulty 19, and that one a website can be found for.
-
Your licence gets checked
Builders are licensed or registered by the state, and Queensland, NSW and Victoria each publish a register anyone can look up. What people find there and on your listing has to line up.

Lachlan from King Tradie is the top G of tradie website design, development, and management. I've worked with many website agencies and individuals, and no one comes close to Lachlan's attention to detail and high-end quality. He doesn't waste your time asking the same questions; in fact, he did his own research and made the onboarding and entire website development process easy. I normally get myself too involved in projects, but I literally only had to show up for the photography session. Lachlan handled the rest. If you want to skip the time and money wasters, go with King Tradie.

Highly recommend Lachie from King Tradie! He built a new website for my construction business and made the entire process simple and stress-free. I was able to hand over the reins and trust him to take control of the design and development, while still keeping everything clearly explained throughout the process. The finished website looks professional, the quality is excellent, and I'm extremely happy with the outcome. Most importantly, Lachie allowed me to stay focused on running my business instead of spending valuable time trying to build a website myself. Great service from start to finish!

Why work with us.
Plenty of agencies sell marketing to tradies. Here's what's different about how we do it.
-
A track record you can check
Our clients are named on this website with their real numbers, so you can see what we've actually done before you spend a dollar.
-
We build what the numbers back
Before a page for extensions or granny flats gets built, we check how many people search for it, what a click costs and how hard it is to come up for. Nothing gets billed on a guess.
-
Plain-English reporting
Each month we tell you what we did, what changed, and what's next. If a number goes backwards, we say so and say why.
For every size of trade business
Being found on Google solves a different problem at each stage. Find the crew that sounds like yours.
- 1-3 on the crew
Starter
Word of mouth fills most weeks, then one falls over without warning. Showing up on Google flips it: work starts finding you.
- 4-9 on the crew
Growing
A quiet week now costs wages, not just your time. Steady enquiries from Google let you plan the roster instead of patching it.
- 10+ on the crew
Established
The name's already known. Now every search in your area should end at you, with daylight back to second.
On page one of Google for around 40 searches, and getting about 10 new clients a month from it. Read the Quick Mick's Plumbing case study
- ~40 searches on page one
- ~10 new clients a month
- $0 spent on ads
Marketing for builders
Showing up on Google is one part of it. Here is what a building business's marketing is made of, and which parts we do.
-
Your website
Where most people end up when they search for a renovation builder or a granny flat builder. Every other part sends them here. We build them.
-
Your Google listing
The free listing with the stars and the call button, for the person searching nearby. We set it up and keep it moving.
-
Showing up on Google
This page. A page for each kind of job, so your website comes up when someone types it. It takes months, then keeps working without a bill for every click.
-
Google Ads
Puts you at the top of Google this week, and stops the day you stop paying. A "builder near me" click costs A$5.30 to A$19.25. We run them.
Referrals and word of mouth are the fifth part, and we do not sell those. The click range is Google Keyword Planner, AU, retrieved 21 July 2026, from Google Ads click costs by trade. The ads side is on Google Ads for tradies, the website side on websites for tradies.

Builder SEO questions?
See if we answered it below.
How many people search for a builder?
About 1.6 million searches a month in Australia from people looking to hire a builder, once every renovation, new home, granny flat, extension, suburb and "near me" search is added up (1,622,640 as Semrush lists them; Semrush AU, pulled 8 September 2026). Every figure behind that, job by job and suburb by suburb, is on how many people search for a builder.
What is SEO for a building business?
SEO means getting your business found on Google. For a builder that is a page for each kind of job (new homes, renovations, extensions, granny flats, commercial), honest answers to what people search for, and the tidy-up behind the website, so when someone types "renovation builders" and your area, your website is the one they open.
Which building jobs does SEO win?
The planned ones. New homes, custom homes, renovations, extensions and granny flats are each their own search, so each gets its own page. "Builders near me" is different: that one is decided by the three business listings at the top of Google, which is the local SEO part of this page.
How long until a builder shows up on Google?
Plan on a few months before real movement. Google has to find each new page, work out what it answers, and decide it belongs above websites it already trusts. There is no shortcut, for you or the builders you compete with. Once a page is up there, it keeps bringing enquiries without a bill for every click.
What does SEO cost for a builder?
Across Australia, cheap SEO runs at about $300 a month and quality SEO at about $3,000, and the difference is the hours of work each price buys (six published Australian price guides, checked 1 September 2026). You get the exact figure for your business on a call, before anything starts, with no lock-in. The full picture is in our guide to SEO costs in Australia.
Does SEO actually work?
Our results are named on this website. Quick Mick's Plumbing sits on page one of Google for around 40 searches and gets about 10 new clients a month from it, with no ad spend. Mr Loo, a plumbing business in South East Queensland, reached page one for 66 searches from a one-off website rebuild. This page is the same plan, aimed at building work.
Why does SEO help a building business?
Because the jobs you want more of get typed into Google every month: "custom home builders" 2,900 times, "granny flat builders" 1,900 times, "renovation builders" 1,000 times. Those searches are spread across 478,651 construction businesses (ABS, 30 June 2026, counted on how many tradies are in Australia), and the ones with a page that comes up get the enquiry, without paying for the click.
What are the three businesses at the top of Google?
They are business listings, not websites. Every business can have one on Google for free, and Google calls it a Google Business Profile. Search "builders near me" and the three at the top, with the stars and the call button, are the ones Google trusts most in that area. That is where the nearby searches get decided.
Do you do local SEO for builders?
Yes. Local SEO means getting found on Google by people near you, and for a builder that is your Google listing, your reviews and the suburbs you build in, set up and kept moving so "builders near me" finds you. The same job for every trade is on local SEO for tradies. We do it alongside the website work, never instead of it.
Do you do marketing for builders?
Yes. The website, the Google listing, showing up on Google and Google Ads are the four parts we do, and this page covers how they fit together for a building business. Referrals and word of mouth are yours; we do not sell those. Our work for construction trades is named on this website too, starting with Akers Construction, a commercial carpentry business.
Should a builder start with SEO or Google Ads?
If you need enquiries this month, ads. A "builder near me" click costs A$5.30 to A$19.25 (Google Keyword Planner, AU, retrieved 21 July 2026), and the ads stop the day you stop paying. SEO is the slower half, and the one you stop paying per click for. We run both, and we say which to start with once we have seen your area.
