SEO for tradies
SEO for tradies is how we get your business showing up on Google when people near you search for your trade, for every job you do and in every suburb you work in, so you get more enquiries without paying for every click.
What actually is SEO?
SEO is short for search engine optimisation.
Let's start with what a search engine is. It's a software program like Google or Bing which helps users get answers for what they're searching for.
The optimisation part of SEO is making your business the best answer for your ideal client prospects' search query.
Two main things get you there.
-
Pages written for the search
High-quality pages, unique to your business, that answer what people type when they look for a business like yours.
-
Other websites linking to you
When other websites link to yours, it tells Google you can be trusted. Business directories are one example.
-
The best match for that user's search
Google shows the best answers first.
What SEO costs
Our SEO for tradies starts from $1,200 a month and goes up with the size of your goals. That price covers the work it takes to get your business found on Google:
- A plan built from search data for the jobs and suburbs you want more of
- Pages on your website for those jobs and suburbs
- Links from other websites to yours
- Setting up and looking after your Google Business Profile listing, the free listing Google gives your business, with your reviews, hours and a call button
- A report every month of what we did and what it brought in
Across the market, agencies charge $1,000 to $10,000 a month for SEO, depending on what you want to achieve. A bigger budget pays for more pages, more suburbs, more links from other websites and the bigger searches in your trade, which take longer to win.
A new website is a one-off build, priced separately: our websites for tradies start from $3,990 for a 5-page website.
Our guide to SEO cost in Australia shows what each price range pays for.
The benefits of SEO for your trade business
Real people search for businesses like yours every month.
Google searches a month in Australia from people looking to hire
- Builders about 1.6 million
- Plumbers about 1.6 million
- Electricians about 1 million
- Painters about 500,000
- Carpenters about 84,000
Source: Semrush, Australia, 8 and 9 September 2026. Counts searches from people looking to hire, including by job, suburb and city.
What you get from showing up for those searches
-
More locals find you
SEO lifts how often your business shows up when people near you search for your trade or a service your business provides.
-
Not paying for every click
Google Ads are the paid ads at the top of Google, and you pay every time someone clicks one. SEO has no charge per click.
-
More consistent, higher-quality enquiries
People searching for your trade are looking to hire, so the enquiries you get are higher quality. And because your pages keep showing up higher on Google, the enquiries come in more consistently, which helps grow your business.
Does SEO actually work?
SEO works when it's done properly.
Yes, when it's done like this
The attention to detail, data and budget it needs
We plan your SEO from search data, and adjust the plan whenever new data comes in. Before anything gets built, we look at three things:
- How many people search for each service you offer, in the suburbs you work in
- Where your business shows up on Google today, and who shows up ahead of you
- How much competition each search has, so we know which ones to go after first
Your budget is set by the size of your goals, and it pays for the time it takes to do all of that properly.
Unique pages, written to bring in enquiries
Every page is written for one job people search for when they're looking to hire, like blocked drains or hot water. We follow proven principles to make sure each page is higher-quality content that Google will recognise. Your monthly report shows how many enquiries each page brought in.
A website that turns visitors into enquiries
Your website's job is to turn the people SEO brings you into enquiries. Anyone who lands on it should see five things straight away:
- Who you are
- What you do
- Where you do it
- Why they should trust you
- How to get in touch
That takes sharp photos of your own jobs, words that get straight to the point and speak to the clients you want, and a clean website that's easy to use on any phone or computer. The measure is the share of website visitors who enquire.
Enough time allocated to execute the strategy
SEO is built in stages, and each stage needs time to work:
- First, pages for the searches with less competition, so work starts coming in sooner
- Then the bigger searches in your trade, which take longer to win
- Then, month after month, the pages already built keep showing up higher on Google
Done properly, you can see movement within about 2 months. That's why we work 3 months at a time: enough time to carry out the plan and for the results to show.
An agency that only does trades
Trade businesses are all we do SEO for, so you won't have to explain how your jobs come in. We already know:
- How people search for a tradie: by the job, the suburb and the city
- What turns a website visitor into an enquiry for a trade business
Your plan is built on that from day one, around the work you want more of.
No, when it's done like this
Cheap SEO
Cheap SEO doesn't get the time, data or budget it needs. Google keeps changing how it works, so a plan has to keep changing with it, and that takes time and attention to detail. A low monthly price doesn't pay for either.
Mass-produced pages
Cheap agencies often fill your website with mass-produced pages made by AI, and Google only rewards unique, high-quality pages over those. They also chase website visitors instead of actual enquiries that turn into jobs: blog posts that reach page one but bring in readers who aren't looking to hire, or visitors from overseas who could never turn into a paying client. Good SEO is measured in increased high-quality enquiries, not more website visitors.
A website that doesn't turn visitors into enquiries
SEO brings more local people to your website, but visitors alone don't bring in jobs. If your website is a wall of text, people can't quickly see what you do or how to get in touch, so they leave and the extra visitors are wasted. Your website has to turn website visitors into actual enquiries, and so do all the extra pages built out.
Not giving it time
Anyone promising page one in a few weeks is lying. SEO is a long-term game: every month we build more pages and earn more links, and Google needs time to find, check and trust all of it. If you quit after a month or two, you leave before the results arrive. The big companies in your area all pay for SEO, which is why they get consistent enquiries and have grown into a bigger company.
An agency that does SEO for everyone
Agencies that do SEO for every industry spread themselves thin. When trades are all an agency does, the strategy is built around how people search for a plumber, an electrician or a builder, so it's more specific and higher quality. At KINGTRADIE, we only do SEO for trade businesses, so no online stores, cafes or dental practices.
What successful SEO looks like
Success has two parts: your business showing up on Google, and a monthly report that shows what that brought you.
The numbers in our reports have to match what you notice in your business.
We also set up your enquiry form to block marketing pitches and spam from countries known for sending it, so the enquiries in your report are mostly high-quality ones, not marketers trying to sell you something.
Local SEO for tradies
Local SEO means getting found on Google by people near you.
When someone near you searches for your trade, Google shows three business listings with stars and a call button before any website, and local SEO gets your business into them. It is one part of SEO: the rest gets your website found for the jobs you do, and most trade businesses need both.
-
How Google decides who shows up
Google says three things decide who shows up in those listings and on Google Maps:
- How well your listing matches what the person typed
- How close your business is to the person searching
- How well known your business is, such as how many reviews you have and how many websites link to it
No one can request or pay for a better spot.

Your Google Business Profile listing
Each of those listings is a Google Business Profile listing. We fill in yours the way Google's guidelines set out:
- Your real business name, as on your signage and stationery
- Only the business types that describe your main work
- Up to 20 suburbs or areas, within about two hours' drive of your base
- Your address shown only if clients come to you, with a permanent sign there
- Every service you offer, with a short description
- Opening hours kept up to date, and photos of real jobs

Our Google Business Profile for tradies guide covers each step.
-
The suburbs you work in
Your website isn't limited to the suburbs on your listing. We build a real page for each suburb you want more work from, with the jobs you've done there.
-
Reviews, directories and links
We get your review link and QR code from Google, so you can ask every client for a review. Paying for reviews or offering something in return breaks Google's rules, and Google can hide a listing's reviews for a while when it finds fake ones.
Source: Google Maps content policy and Google Business Profile Help on restrictions for fake reviews, read 19 October 2026.
We list your business on directories such as Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Yellow Pages and True Local, with the same name and phone number everywhere. We also earn links from other local websites, like a supplier you buy from.

Case study: a plumber
We built this plumber a new website and set up his Google listing so it comes up for people in his local area. He now shows up on page one of Google for around 40 searches, with no paid ads, and he's consistently discovered by people in his local community. That's around 10 new clients a month: not leads, people who pay invoices and don't waste your time.

Highly recommend Lachie from King Tradie! He built a new website for my construction business and made the entire process simple and stress-free. I was able to hand over the reins and trust him to take control of the design and development, while still keeping everything clearly explained throughout the process. The finished website looks professional, the quality is excellent, and I'm extremely happy with the outcome. Most importantly, Lachie allowed me to stay focused on running my business instead of spending valuable time trying to build a website myself. Great service from start to finish!

Lachlan from King Tradie is the top G of tradie website design, development, and management. I've worked with many website agencies and individuals, and no one comes close to Lachlan's attention to detail and high-end quality. He doesn't waste your time asking the same questions; in fact, he did his own research and made the onboarding and entire website development process easy. I normally get myself too involved in projects, but I literally only had to show up for the photography session. Lachlan handled the rest. If you want to skip the time and money wasters, go with King Tradie.

Frequently asked questions
How much does SEO cost?
Our SEO starts from $1,200 a month and goes up with the size of your goals. That price pays for the time, attention and detail it takes to do SEO properly. Cheaper SEO exists, and you get what you pay for: a low price doesn't leave enough time or attention to build your strategy and then keep adjusting it as Google changes. All of KINGTRADIE's SEO packages for tradies cover a plan built from search data, pages on your website for the jobs and suburbs you want more of, links from other websites, setting up and looking after your Google listing, and a report every month.
How SEO is priced in Australia How long does SEO take to work?
If the plan is carried out properly, you can see movement within about 2 months, and it keeps building month after month. Searches with less competition reach page one faster. Searches with more competition take a lot longer.
Does SEO work for my trade?
Yes. We provide SEO for trade businesses across Australia, including plumbers, electricians, painters, builders and renovators, carpenters, roofers, landscapers, locksmiths, and air conditioning and pest control businesses.
Every month, people in your area search Google for your trade, and SEO is how your business shows up for those searches without paying per click. It works when it gets proper time and attention, and when the website people land on gives them a reason to call.
The biggest businesses in your area invest in SEO too. That's a big reason they've grown to that size, and why their enquiries come in consistently: more people find them on Google.
How do I get my trade business on Google Maps?
Claim and verify your Google Business Profile listing. It's what people see when they look for a tradesman on Google Maps. Fill it in with the suburbs you work in, the business type for your main work, every service you offer and photos of real jobs, and ask every client for a review once the job is done. At KINGTRADIE, we set up and look after that listing as part of our SEO for tradies.
Google Business Profile for tradies Can I do SEO myself?
You can, but we wouldn't recommend it. You're already busy running jobs, quoting and booking work, and SEO takes extra hours every week on top of that. An agency that only does trades can do it properly while you get on with the work.
Is SEO better than Google Ads?
Neither is better. They do different jobs. Google Ads puts you at the top of Google straight away, and you pay every time someone clicks. SEO takes longer to build, and there's no charge per click. Some businesses run both: ads for enquiries now, SEO for enquiries that build over time. Our marketing for tradies page shows which one to start with.
Google Ads for tradies Is SEO better than hipages?
For steady work coming straight to your business, yes. hipages is good for filling gaps in your calendar, especially early on, because you can receive job invitations in your trade and area without building a website first. Its plans run from $139 to $649 a month plus GST, hipages says “Every lead is capped at 3 businesses”, and every plan starts on a 6-month introductory term that then renews for 12 months (hipages' pricing page, checked 19 October 2026). Oneflare, a similar platform, closed on 30 June 2026 (Airtasker's support centre, checked 19 October 2026). With SEO, people searching for your trade find your business on Google and contact you directly, with no charge per click.
hipages review Am I locked into a contract?
Only for 3 months at a time, because that's when you can see the results and the value we provide. If you stopped after 1 month, you might not see them yet. We don't lock you into a 12-month contract, and we don't want to keep you in any contract that isn't bringing you results. So we try our absolute best in those 3 months, and you stay on because it's working.
